The races of the land of Senkyou are diverse but only the most well know and numerous are listed here. Their are other races both living in Senkyou and living in lands beyond its borders. Other races are also making Senkyou their new home and will be listed here if the need for explanation arises. Humans Humans are numerous and multiply faster than most races. They are balanced and chaotic but are also dependable. This race also has the flaw of narrow vision, not looking toward the future. Though this flaw comes naturally for races with such short life spans, it sometimes causes them to act more heroically than races with longer life spans. Urban humans use artifacts for nearly everything one could think of. From cooking to hunting, they need artifacts to survive. Humans use artifacts more than any other known race, and thus tend to be skilled with most artifacts. Humans are free spirits, pure and simple. They go only where their heart takes them and choose their own paths. Strangely enough, there are more human Ana'Kisuto than any other race, perhaps this is because of their rebellious nature. Elven Elves are one of the longer living races, living as long as five centuries. These frail creatures live among humans easily, though many races with shorter life spans dislike their holier-than-thou attitude. Though Elves are adept with magic, they are also rather good with weapons that require dexterity and agility. They are also intelligent and wise, as they live very long lives. Though they have many brethren, such as the so-called Dark Elves with their fair skins and almost evil looking eyes or the almost human looking Drani'otor, Elves tend to be very private creatures even amongst fellow Elves. Elves tend to prefer magic to artifacts. To many of them, artifacts are a parody of magic and nature and are merely poor substitutes for the 'real thing'. Elves prefer to be mages and will join any group they see as worthy for their own ends. Many tend to become Gunjin and City Mages because of the fact both are well equipped. Dwarven Dwarves are a hearty folk with a very good sense of humor, despite the fact many think they come with bad attitude to offset their diminutive stature. They enjoy a good laugh, even if it is at their expense, just don't push their patience as they are very fierce if angered. These adaptable folk can live just about anywhere on land and are also very good with their hands. They are stronger than many taller races and can take more of a beating as well. They tend to also have adaptable cultural values as well. These folk also prefer purpose to flashy and tend to show this in their 'get to the point' attitude in conversation. Dwarves love artifacts. They enjoy working with artifacts, taking them apart, and figuring out how they work. Many dwarves become artifact engineers and relic hunters. Ogres Ogres are BIG. Really big. Enough to make a dwarf faint from fright. They might be slower than most races but make up for it with brute strength that could crush anything that isn't reinforced with mithril silver! They aren't stupid at all though, they can be just as crafty as an Elf or Human. Ogres are also wanderers by nature, not staying in one place for long unless they feel it would expand their fighting abilities to do so. Don't mess with an Ogre or, as an unfortunate human once said, 'Ogre smash! Ack! Me hurt bad.' Ogres don't mind artifacts, but they tend to avoid using them if at all possible. Some are very superstitious about artifacts, many think that by merely using an artifact one is cursed. Ogres tend be Genkin, as they enjoy the wandering life style. Some are Gunjin and grunt workers. Krranshi The Krranshi are feline warriors that hold honor above anything else. Their Gods, culture, and even some economy is based on personal and family honor. Most of this honor is gained in battle. The Krranshi show just as much magic potential as any other race but they do not always devote as much time to it as would any other race. War and battle are their bread and butter, so to speak. These bipedal felines lost their claws at some point for dexteritious hands but are just as lethal with any weapon, if not more so. A word of advice friend, never insult a Krranshi's honor or you'll face the wrath of not only the one you insulted but his/her whole family, and they enjoy blood feuds more than one might think. Krranshi think of artifacts as gifts from the Gods ment for the Krranshi themselves, but they don't seem to mind other races using them. Many Krranshi rituals use artifacts that induce a trance-like state. The Krranshi, however, believe no one really owns an artifact, but that the artifacts are in fact sentient and choose their masters. Krranshi tend be anything that involves a war or combat. Gunjin, Relic Hunters, and Tribes. Kanisian Kanisian are to dogs as Krranshi are to cats. These canine humanoids are best known for blind loyalty as well as unmatched bloodlust. They can match a Krranshi in battle and still fight on for their generals. These creatures are natural berserkers during the full moons, as they turn very ferocious at that time. The only difference is in their eyes, unrivaled rage burns within their eyes when both moons are full. Despite their bloodlust, the Kanis culture is rather stable, build completely on loyalty and dependability. Disloyalty earns a Kanisian his or her death by their peers hands. As an astonished Dwarf once said, 'It seems a disloyal Kanis is a dead Kanis.' Interestingly enough the Kanisian and Krranshi get along very well and it is not uncommon to see Kanisian and Krranshi fighting side-by-side. The Kanis see artifacts as nothing more than the trash of a dead race. They tend to avoid using artifacts, mostly because of cultural taboos. The Kanis tend to either be organized into Tribes or Gunjin soldiers. Komori The Komori are masters of the sky. Descended from a kind of flying mammal similar to the fruit bat, they are also hollow boned and frail. These creatures replace cavalry with their expert flying abilities. The strong legs that these creatures evolved also help them start a flight with ease. Unlike the bat, the wings and arms became separate limbs, thus giving the Komori an almost demon like appearance. However, these folk are gentle and normally fight only when defending themselves. In fact these folk are vegetarians and eat mostly fruit, like the fruit bat. The magic of the Komori consists mostly of lighting and wind magics, as the sky is their element and realm. Komori think of artifacts in a similar way that a Dwarf does. They enjoy looking at them and how they work but they don't have that engineer touch that dwarves have. Instead, artifacts are treated as toys, gifts, and signs of high social status. Though few are relic hunters because many Komori have a phobia of closed spaces. Komori tend to either be Gunjin soldiers, merchants, or farmers. Draaci The Draaci are a warlike reptilian race with strong skin and deadly claws. Though clumsy with delicate tools and machinery, they are very powerful and crafty in battle and it is said that they sometimes eat the corpses of their slain enemy. Whether of not this is true, the Draaci are omnivores but their diet consists mostly of meat and similar sources of protein. Magics of the Draaci tend to focus on fire magic as well as a little healing magic. To die is to fail miserably as far as the Draaci are concerned, and this shows in every facet of their culture. The strong live and breed while the weak die. Draaci treat artifacts as nothing more than items of war. These creatures will even destroy some ruins they come across if they aren't able to use it for their own ends. Many Draaci are either Genkin or are organized into large Tribes. |
